- Email Announcements List Back Online (Includes a New Feature)
The
email announcements list is now moved over to its new service.
Functionality was added so that users may submit postal mailing
information and a comment when subscribing to the email announcements
list. Providing any additional information is purely optional.
2006, July 12
- Site Update Officially Completed
After
many weeks of gradual work and updates, a major visual redesign
of this site has been completed; it features a new background
and fonts, and basic overall presentation style. Most pages
remain organized as before. This News section was also added,
and additional notes have been added to the Site
Index detailing the location of some items such
as press quotations, and the artist's comments. The opening
of the Writings section is likely to be the next update.

July 9 - Artist to Speak at the KIA
Mr.
Spyker will be giving a short presentation about his work
at the Kalamazoo
Institute of Arts on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 for
the KIA's Artbreak series.

Painting Wins Award in Kalamazoo Area Show
David
Jay Spyker has been awarded The Martin Maddox Prize for Imaginative
Realist Painting at the Kalamazoo Area Show
for "Flow", a painting in acrylics on canvas. The
prize is named after the artist Martin Maddox, who was a friend
of Mr. Spyker, and it has been awarded at the show each year
since Maddox's death in 1997. Maddox
was known regionally for the emotive, evocative, and imaginative
style of his figurative paintings in oils and pastels.
2006, June 30
- Kalamazoo Area Show
"Flow",
a painting by David Jay Spyker will be on display as part
of the Kalamazoo Area Show at the Kalamazoo
Institute of Arts in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The annual
regional art competition will run from July 1 - August 26,
2006; this year the show drew 718 entries (a record number),
of which only 158 were accepted for exhibition by juror Tim
Lowly. It is a very strong show this year, and
is well worth the visit.
2006, June 2 -
Art Competition at the Art Center of Battle Creek
The
painting , "Someday", is currently on display as
part of the 27th Annual Michigan Artists' Competition at the
Art
Center of Battle Creek in Battle Creek, Michigan.
The show, which includes 55 works by 43 regional artists was
judged by Jane Connell, Director
of Collections and Exhibitions/Senoir Curator of the Muskegon
Museum of Art in Michigan, and runs from June 2 through July
1, 2006.
2006,
March 15 - Forum for and About Representational Painters Working
in Acrylics Opens
David
Jay Spyker is hosting a new forum devoted to representational
painting in acrylics. Topics will include technique, the origin
of ideas, the business of art, critiques, and other related
issues. Anyone interested in representational painting in
acrylics is welcome to join the various discussions - artists,
patrons, and enthusiasts alike are invited. The forum my be
found here.
2006,
January 13 - The Regional Show at the Carnegie Center for
the Arts
Three
paintings by the artist ("Flow", "Verge",
and "Falling") are on displayed as part of the 2006
Fine Arts and Photography Competition at the Carnegie
Center for the Arts in Three Rivers, Michigan.
The show, which includes 218 works by 152 regional artists
was judged by Maria
Tomasula, artist and educator, and runs from January
15 through February 26, 2006.
