The Basics
Entries in any of the categories listed below are always arranged alphabetically by title (“The” and “A” are dropped for the sake of alphabetization when they begin a title).
A maximum of 16 works will be displayed at a time. If there are more than 16 items in any category, you may click the “MORE PIECES” and “BACK” links at the bottom of the page to browse the rest.
Artwork by Year
Each year range category may include any type of medium (acrylics, watercolors, graphite, charcoal, etc.) done during that period. Also, you will see any type work from finished paintings, to preliminary studies, to basic sketch work and studies.
Artwork by Medium
Under this heading, you may view pieces that are considered “finished” artwork. Studies and sketches are generally not considered finished works, but there may be the occasional drawing or painting that qualifies as both a preliminary study and as a finished artwork. Since each includes every entry available for that given medium, some of these categories will return a lot of results.
Preliminary Studies
In this category, you will find studies done as preparatory work for finished pieces. These could be anything from the most basic pencil sketches to fully realized preliminary paintings (those finished pre-studies will also be listed under Artwork by Medium).
General Studies
More generalized study work is listed here. Basic sketching in any medium is what you will see. Not everything an artist sketches becomes a finished piece, and it can be interesting to see some of that other work done in pursuit of the Muse.
Explore by Selected Subjects
Quite a number of categories based on recurring themes and subject matter have been created. Selecting any subject from the drop-down menu will present a list of related pieces. Some Subjects/Themes will contain many more entries than others – because they are more broadly defined than say, Apples or Ladders, Landscape and Still Life are prime examples that will show you a wider range of results. Many works will be listed under multiple subjects.
